IPOB Commends Biafrans for Boycotting Nigerian Independence Day Celebrations

Orlu Provine, Nigeria-Biafraland.
The Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed its profound appreciation to Biafrans, supporters, and advocates of Biafra freedom for refusing to participate in the Nigerian Independence Day celebrations on October 1st, 2024, across Biafraland. In a press statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the Movement praised all who chose to reject the Nigerian flag and shun the government’s celebrations.

IPOB extended its commendation to responsible Nigerians who also refrained from celebrating, opting instead to protest against the ongoing poor governance and criminal activities affecting the country. IPOB firmly reiterated its stance that the British-constructed entity known as Nigeria has consistently failed its people, especially Biafrans, who have endured oppression and bloodshed in the effort to maintain the forced unity of Nigeria.

The widespread rejection of the Independence Day celebrations is viewed by IPOB as a significant indicator of Biafrans’ resolve to separate from Nigeria and pursue a sovereign Biafran state where their rights and freedoms will be safeguarded. Biafrans worldwide continue to rally behind the movement for Biafra’s independence, which they believe will be a beacon of hope and a source of pride for Africa and the global African diaspora.

IPOB expressed its gratitude to Biafran students, teachers, traders, and market leaders for conducting their usual business on October 1st, instead of participating in the festivities. The Separatist group underscored that the era of flying the Nigerian flag in Biafraland has come to an end. According to IPOB, Biafra is ready to emerge as a new nation, offering leadership and inspiration to the African continent.

The statement concluded with a call for a Biafran referendum or a formal declaration of independence, emphasizing that the amalgamation treaty forced upon Nigeria’s ethnic groups by Britain has expired. IPOB reaffirmed its commitment to realizing an independent Biafra and thanked all Biafrans for their continued support and solidarity in this crucial movement.
