Dangote Eyes Gabon Expansion as President Extends Investment Invitation

Gabon’s President, Brice Oligui Nguema, has extended an invitation to Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited, to explore investment opportunities in Gabon’s cement and fertiliser sectors. This invitation follows Dangote’s recent decision to abandon plans for a major investment in Nigeria’s steel industry amid allegations of monopoly.

In a recent meeting, President Nguema highlighted Gabon’s potential for growth and development in these critical sectors and emphasized the country’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investments. Dangote, Africa's wealthiest individual, expressed interest in evaluating the opportunities presented by Gabon.

Dangote had previously planned to invest in a new steel plant in Nigeria, but these plans were scrapped after the Nigerian government raised concerns about the monopolistic advantage his newly built refinery could give him in the market. This move has led Dangote to consider diversifying his investments across other African nations.

The potential investment in Gabon could significantly boost the country's cement and fertiliser industries, providing much-needed infrastructure development and agricultural support. As discussions progress, both parties are optimistic about the prospects of a fruitful collaboration.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
