An Appeal for Freedom: Open Letter to President Tinubu on Nnamdi Kanu's Release
Fr. Angelo Chidi Unegbu has penned a passionate plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in detention despite being discharged and acquitted by the court.
Fr. Unegbu questions the government's reasoning, citing the connection between Kanu's detention and the insecurity in the southeast. He argues that releasing Kanu could help restore peace in the region and revive the nation's collapsing security architecture.
The letter highlights the nation's dire situation, with insecurity ravaging the southeast since 2020 and the economy suffering. Fr. Unegbu appeals to President Tinubu's conscience and humanity, asking:
- What is difficult about releasing an innocent man for the sake of peace?
- What do we intend to achieve by continuous detention?
- Where is our conscience? Where is our humanity?
BIAFRA SUN joins Fr. Unegbu in demanding justice and peace for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the people of Biafra.
