Ohanaeze Ndigbo Explains Why Nigeria Struggles to Achieve Peace

In a recent statement, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, through it's spokesperson Chiedozie Ogbonnia, has shed light on the underlying factors contributing to Nigeria's persistent struggle for peace.

Historical Grievances and Injustice

Ohanaeze highlighted that long-standing grievances rooted in historical injustices have left many ethnic groups feeling marginalized. These grievances have created deep-seated mistrust among various regions, making national cohesion a challenging goal.

Inequitable Resource Distribution

The group pointed out that the uneven distribution of resources and wealth has exacerbated tensions. Regions rich in natural resources, such as the Niger Delta, feel exploited and neglected, fueling unrest and agitation for a fairer share of the nation's wealth.

Political Marginalization

Political exclusion of certain groups from the central power structure has also been a major source of discontent. Ohanaeze emphasized that inclusive governance and equitable representation are crucial for fostering a sense of belonging and unity among all Nigerians.

Security Challenges

Nigeria's peace is further undermined by pervasive security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and ethnic violence. Ohanaeze stressed the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to address these security threats effectively.

Call for Dialogue and Reconciliation

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for genuine dialogue and reconciliation efforts to address these deep-rooted issues. The group believes that open communication and sincere efforts towards justice and equity are essential steps towards achieving lasting peace in Nigeria.

In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo's statement underscores the complexity of Nigeria's quest for peace, urging both the government and citizens to work collaboratively towards a more just and inclusive society.
